Funeral for Jerry Cessna, 75, of Lake Nacogdoches is at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 16, 2021, at Laird Funeral Home, Nacogdoches. Burial will follow in New Prospect Cemetery, Timpson. Visitation is from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday, prior to service at the funeral home.

Born Sept. 27, 1945 in Hardin, Texas, he was the son of Robert and Lois Cessna. Jerry was a 1963 graduate of Hardin High School and a 1969 graduate of Stephen F. Austin State University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He was a proud member of Delta Sigma Phi/Sawyers fraternity at SFA since 1964.

Jerry joined City of Nacogdoches as a programmer and retired with nearly 30 years of service, 26 of which as human resources director. Jerry will be remembered for his love of family and friends, his dry intellectual wit, his strong sense of patriotism, and his love of living on Lake Nacogdoches.

Jerry is survived by Glynda, his beloved wife of 37 years; son, Jarod Cessna and wife Christy of Nacogdoches; daughter, Wendy Moorhouse and husband Jed of Abilene; son, Doug Wimberley of Henrietta; brother, Wayne Cessna of Jacksonville; brother-in-law, Doug McCarver of Nacogdoches; grandchildren, Reece Anthony and wife Amy, Jordan Anthony, Samantha Anthony and Daniel Wimberley; and great-grandchildren, Rhett Anthony and Royce Anthony. He was preceded in death by his parents; longtime friend, Mickey Wilson; cousin, Robert Beasley; and daughter-in-law, Georgeanne Wimberley.

Pallbearers will be Reece Anthony, Daniel Wimberley, Will Boozer, Scott Goodrich, Earnest Allen and Joe Weaver. Honorary pallbearers will be the brothers of Delta Sigma Phi/Sawyers.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to New Prospect Cemetery Association, 423 CR 4804, Timpson, Texas 75975.
