Wayne's Story

 

Wayne Howard Denney passed away in the early morning hours of Tuesday, November 14, 2017.
He was born March 11, 1947, in Wichita Falls, TX to Alice and Dalton Denney. 
Wayne was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, as well as an avid sportsman and spent many years hunting in West Texas with his buddies. In his younger days Wayne was a 3-sport letterman in football, baseball and basketball at South Houston High School. At Stephen F. Austin University, he excelled with the Delta Sigma Phi Intramural Fast Pitch Softball team, winning the Championship in 1967.
After graduation from SFA with a Bachelor's Degree, Wayne honorably served in the U.S. Army Reserves for 6 years and was honorably discharged. 
He also enjoyed salt water fishing and watched his beloved Astros win the World Series. Wayne enjoyed travel until his illness began to limit his ability to do so. In his later years he loved living on Lone Star Lake in NE Texas and treasured his time there.
Wayne worked in the Construction Industry for most of his career in various capacities, including building homes and owning a construction supply business. 
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alice and Howard Dalton Denney, brother-in-law, Gary Miller, and sister-in-law Cathy Simpson. Cathy was a special needs individual and Wayne was a devoted angel in her life. 
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 42 years, Christi, son Robert Denney and wife Maria of Port O'Connor, daughter, Kelley Peacock and husband, Nick, of Jacksonville. He is also survived by brother, Bill Denney and wife Carla of Houston, and sister, Cindy Miller, of Needville; grandchildren, Dru and Kate Peacock, and adopted granddaughter, Kelsey Whitzel, as well as several nieces and nephews.
The family requests In lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Volunteer Services Council of the Brenham State School.
