Charles Gee - Class Of 1966

Charles Gee

On Wednesday, April 3, 2019, while surrounded by his family at home, Charles Eugene Gee lost his four year battle with cancer.

Charlie was born on October 10, 1942 in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.  He graduated from Jasper High School in 1960 and in 1966 from Stephen F. Austin State University with a BS in agriculture/forestry.  He married his high school sweetheart, Sue Hollis Gee, in July of 1962.

He began a logging career with Kirby Lumber Co. for 18 years; he worked his way up through the ranks at Kirby from a new-hire to the position of logging superintendent.  In 1980, he decided to start his own logging business, Charles Gee Logging, Inc. He dedicated many long hours to the success of this business and in later years he became the State Coordinator for the Texas Logging Counsel, working tirelessly to improve conditions for younger loggers still in the profession.  In addition, Charlie owned several local businesses.

In 1966, Charlie joined and was a devoted member of the Jasper Volunteer Fire Department.  He held several offices in the department including Fire Chief.  He served as an original member of the Board of Trustees for the Texas Fire Museum, president of East Texas Firemen and Fire Marshall's Assoc., served on the committee for the Retirement and Pension Fund for Jasper's firemen.  He became an instructor for the Texas A&M Fire School in College Station, where he was so happy to pass on his knowledge of fire fighting for the many years he served there.  This was also evident as Charlie was very instrumental in helping establish so many of the various fire departments now existing in our area.

Charlie is survived by his wife of almost 57 years, Sue Hollis Gee; daughter Sarah Smith and husband Sam; daughter Laura McMillon and husband Mitch; daughter Rebecca Soisson and husband Scott; daughter Jennifer Cline and husband Billy.  Also by a brother Bill Gee and wife Sue.

Grandchildren: Matthew and wife Halea, Ashleigh, Charlie, John, Henry, Jacob, Emily, Michael, Brian, Brandon and Grant and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation for Charles Eugene “Charlie” Gee will be held on Friday, April 5, 2019 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. and service on Saturday, April 6, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. both at First Baptist Church of Jasper, Texas.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Jasper Volunteer Fire Dept., 205 E. Water Street, Jasper, TX 75951, or charity of your choice. Condolences may be posted at www.shultzfuneralhomeofjasper.com or on Facebook at Shultz Funeral Home & Crematory.
