Thomas Ewell Escoe, III

    June 21, 1943 - January 12, 2019

 

Mr. Thomas Ewell Escoe, III, 75, of Carthage, TX, passed into the arms of his heavenly father on Saturday morning, Jan. 12, 2019, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on June 21, 1943, in Carthage to the late Thomas Ewell Escoe, Jr. and Elizabeth Anne Davis Escoe. He graduated from Carthage High School with the class of 1961. He attended Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1965, and was a member of Delta Sigma Phi. He wed Sara Alice Wall on June 12, 1965, and together they celebrated 53 years of marriage. In 1968, Tom graduated from the University of Houston School of Pharmacy and in that same year he began his career at Carthage Drug, purchasing the business from D.M. Stovall in July of 1972. He served the Carthage area as a pharmacist for many years, creating loyal patrons who trusted and depended on him and were very confident in his expertise. He was a dedicated, hard-working and caring person who took care of his customers, even working nights and weekends as needed. He owned and operated this business until his retirement in 1995. Tom was a member of the Texas Pharmacy Association. He served on the Board of Directors at the First State Bank and Trust Company for over 42 years and on the Carthage Independent School District Board of Education for 10 years. Tom was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Carthage.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents, Thomas Ewell and Lillian Mahon Escoe and A.L. and Julia Lacy Davis; and brother-in-law, Ralph Norsworthy.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sara Wall Escoe; son, Brad Escoe; daughter, Julie Lewis and husband Deron; grandson, Blake Carroll; sister, Susan Norsworthy; brothers, Charles Escoe and Kent Escoe and wife Pam; brother-in-law, Travis Wall; and numerous nieces, nephews, and many long-time friends.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2019, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kevin Otto officiating. The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home prior to the memorial service.
