Edward Leon Levens

April 16, 1943 - September 14, 2023

 

          Funeral services for Edward Leon Levens, 80, of Lufkin will be held Monday, September 18, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at First Christian Church Lufkin with Reverend Jack Knox and Reverend Jennifer Steele-Lantis officiating. Interment will follow in the Fellowship Baptist Cemetery in Warren, Texas.

          Mr. Levens was born April 16,1943 in McAlester, Oklahoma to the late Ed and Sylvia (Davidson) Levens and entered fully into the presence of the Lord on Thursday, September 14, 2023 in Lufkin.

          He had resided in this community since 1972. As a youth he was involved in Boys Scouts. He was an Eagle Scout with 3 palms and order of the arrow. Later in life he served as a Scout Master. He graduated from Stephen F. Austin University with a Bachelors Degree in Forestry and a Masters Degree in Finance and Economics. While attending SFA he was Class President, Student Congress Representative, President of Sylvans Forestry Club, Member of Sawyer/Delta Sigma Phi and met his lovely wife, Patricia. They were married for 58 years.

          He worked for the US Forest Service, Southland Paper and Temple-Inland, and was Financial and Administrative Manager for the Temple-Inland Forest Group, including operations in Texas, Louisiana, Alabama, Georgia and Mexico.

          While living in Lufkin, he served on the last Board of Directors of the Angelina County Woodland Heights Hospital. He was a member of the Lions Club and served on several Chamber of Commerce committees.

          He also was involved in coaching Youth Baseball when his sons attended Hudson ISD. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, gardening and playing golf. He also enjoyed wood turning and genealogy research. He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and Sons of the Confederacy.

          His Christian faith was an essential part of his life. A member of the First Christian Church of Lufkin, he was a former Elder and served on the Board. He also served as Secretary/Treasurer and Chairman of several ministries.

          Survivors include his wife, Patricia Cooper Levens; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Elisabeth Trammell Levens; son, Rickie Levens; granddaughter and husband, Lauren and Hunter Doster; granddaughters, Sara and Audrey Levens; and brother, David Levens.

          He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Sylvia Levens; sisters, Diana Burke and Linda Smith; and parents-in-law, Robert and Lillian Cooper.

          Pallbearers will be the Men of Medford Sunday School Class and selected Elders.

          Memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church Lufkin, 1300 S. First Street, Lufkin, Texas 75901, or a church of your choice.

          The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday evening at Carroway Funeral Home.
