Dick Burk - Class Of 1966

          Richard (Dick) W. Burk
                                    June 29, 1943 - October 31, 2022

Richard (Dick) Burk was born in Memphis, Tennessee on June 30, 1943, to Dorothy Mae and Ivan Lee Burk. He and his twin brother Bob were welcomed home by sister Martha and grew up together in the Texas Gulf Coast area.

Dick graduated from Schreiner Military Academy in 1961. After earning a bachelor's degree in Psychology and Accounting from Stephen F. Austin University in 1965, Dick served in the U.S. Air Force for four years. He became a CPA after obtaining his master's degree in Accounting from SMU's Cox School of Business. He was a comptroller for a large corporation for several years before forming a business partnership with long-time friend, Richard Hawkins. Dick spearheaded the growth of their business, Welder & Industrial Service Company, into three successful Metroplex operations prior to its sale in 1998.

Dick especially loved spending time with his family and his golfing buddies. Upon his retirement he enjoyed surf fishing and entertaining family and friends at his second home in Galveston. After moving to Fort Worth, he became a devoted TCU Horned Frog enthusiast.

Dick was a loving son, husband, father, brother, and friend who was often sought for his counsel and steadfast support. He and his childhood sweetheart Jinx shared the kind of love that most people only dream about. He was immensely proud of his three sons – Cord, Travis, and Kayne. Known for his quirky wit and teasing nature, Dick was admired and loved by many, especially his mother-in-law, with whom he shared a close relationship.
He was a man with a plan, and he stuck to it. Dick departed with great reluctance after an extended illness. He would have much preferred to leave this Earth in a rocket ship!

Dick is survived by his loving wife of forty-six years, Jinx Burk, and sons Cord, Travis and Kayne Burk and their families – wives Julianne Burk and Alicia Delgado-Burk; granddaughters Flora Burk, Victoria Burk and Anais Woods; great grand-daughter Ophelia Chicoine; sister Martha Burk, sister-in-law Sue Burk, and numerous nieces, nephews and goddaughter Barbara Glass.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the American Heart Association. There will be a celebration of life with family and friends at a later date.
