Hal Thomas "Tommy" Sanders, Jr.

March 9, 1945 - September 16, 2023

Visitation services for Hal Thomas Sanders, Jr. “Tom”, of Flint, will
be held on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, from 5:30-7:00 p.m. at
Stewart Family Funeral Home in Tyler.

Tom passed away Saturday, September 16, 2023, in Tyler at the age
of 78. He was born March 9, 1945 in Hope, Arkansas to Hal Thomas
Sanders and Margaret Eloise Hubbard Sanders as an only child.
Tom graduated from Stephen F. Austin in 1968 and then joined the
United States Marine Corps, where he served in the reserves from 1968 to 1974. In 1973, he started his career as a United States Probation Officer, eventually becoming the Deputy Chief of the Eastern District of Texas.

In 2004 he retired after 31 years of service. In retirement he enjoyed
spending time with his family at the farm, hunting, fishing, gardening, and traveling with his wife. He was a grandfather of four grandchildren who lovingly called him “Pops”.

Tom was a member of Green Acres Baptist Church, serving on the safety/security team and volunteered for the prison ministry.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his
loving family, including his wife of 53 years Jean Sanders of Flint; sons,
Ben Sanders and wife Audrey of Lindale, and Luke Sanders of Golden;
grandchildren Barrett, Abigail, Hal, and Zeb Sanders. Tom was a great husband, father, grandfather, friend, civil servant, and most importantly, a man of great faith. The family will gather for a celebration of his life at their family farm.
